McIntosh was founded in 1949 in Silver Spring, MD. The company moved to Binghamton, NY in 1951 to the 2nd floor of an existing building. McIntosh has remained in Binghamton ever since.

1969
Powering Woodstock
One of the decade's defining moments was McIntosh’s launch of the iconic stereo vacuum tube amplifiers—the MC225, MC240, and MC275—a true masterclass in timeless craftsmanship. MC240s, meticulously hand-assembled, exemplify the precision that has become synonymous with McIntosh. In 1969, these amplifiers powered Woodstock, a historic celebration of peace, love, and extraordinary sound.

Loudspeakers Boom
McIntosh's Loudspeakers grew in popularity. The McIntosh XR5 speakers embody the pinnacle of high-fidelity craftsmanship, seamlessly marrying iconic design with advanced audio engineering. Meticulously engineered with state-of-the-art drivers and housed in a beautifully crafted enclosure, the XR5 delivers crystal-clear highs, richly detailed midrange, and deep, controlled bass that elevates every listening experience.
