Description

The McIntosh C12000 Preamplifier system is ingeniously split into two modules: the C12000 Controller and the C12000 Preamplifier. The Controller module is the brain, housing all power controls, data ports, and external connections, while employing dual isolated power supplies for each channel and a robust dual microprocessor system for unwavering control. Conversely, the Preamplifier module is dedicated solely to audio, with each channel’s connections and circuitry meticulously isolated, allowing for true dual mono operation that achieves peerless stereo separation and sonic integrity. Connecting these two units are specially designed, high-performance umbilical cables that ensure complete shielding against external noise interference. Together, they function seamlessly as one cohesive unit, easily managed via the included remote control or directly from the C12000 Controller’s intuitive front panel.

The C12000 Preamplifier module of McIntosh showcases an extensive suite of analog inputs, totaling twelve: six balanced, four unbalanced, and two versatile phono inputs. These phono inputs break from tradition by not being fixed to Moving Coil or Moving Magnet setups. Instead, they offer the flexibility to be configured as either, complete with adjustable Capacitance and Resistance Loading. Gain adjustments can also be made in 6dB increments, ranging from 40dB to 64dB. This allows audiophiles the freedom to precisely tailor the C12000 to harmonize with any turntable, cartridge setup, and cherished vinyl collection, ensuring an optimal audio experience tailored to individual preferences.

The C12000 Preamplifier boasts McIntosh’s pioneering Hybrid Drive™ technology, ingeniously blending the best of both vacuum tube and solid state architectures to achieve unparalleled sound performance. This innovative module allows you to toggle between vacuum tube and solid state outputs to match the sonic characteristics of the music, your other audio components, and your personal sound preferences. Each output path is meticulously driven by discrete amplifiers. For the vacuum tube output, a robust ensemble of six tubes enhances the high-level preamplifier section, distributing two 12AT7 tubes and one 12AX7A tube across each stereo channel for a rich, warm audio output. Conversely, the solid state path utilizes a discrete balanced op-amp for a crisp, precise audio delivery, ensuring a versatile and customizable listening experience.
