Description

The McIntosh MC901 stands as a revolutionary monoblock amplifier uniquely driving a single speaker. Its unparalleled design merges two distinct amplifiers into one chassis, blending the auditory finesse of a 300 Watt vacuum tube amplifier with the robust power of a 600 Watt solid state amplifier. This fusion is facilitated by their innovative Hybrid Drive™ technology, harnessing the best attributes of both vacuum tubes and solid state to deliver superior sound. The tube section powers the speaker’s mid and high-frequency drivers with a suite of eight KT88 output tubes, alongside four 12AT7 and two 12AX7A signal tubes. Conversely, the solid-state segment propels 600 Watts into the bass drivers, ensuring rigorous energy for the woofers.

The tube amp employs McIntosh's patented Unity Coupled Circuit output transformer—McIntosh’s foundational technology since 1949—to emit its full power across various speaker impedances, just as the solid-state section utilizes our Autoformer™ technology to match its output to speakers of 2, 4, or 8 Ohm impedance seamlessly.

At Definitive, we understand that vacuum tubes aren't at their optimal when tasked with amplifying the deep, unused low frequencies. That's why the McIntosh MC901 is designed with dual sections: the vacuum tube amp focuses on the mid and high frequencies while the solid-state section takes on the heavy lifting of low-frequency sounds. This strategic division ensures that each part of the MC901 excels in its role, supported by discrete power supplies to prevent any cross-channel energy drain. Together, these elements create a symbiotic relationship that optimizes frequency response and maximizes the efficiency of bi-amping, allowing you to experience your music with unparalleled clarity and vibrant sound.

Like all McIntosh amplifiers, the MC901 boasts the renowned "McIntosh Blue" Watt meter, a hallmark of superior audio quality recognized globally. Elevating this tradition, the MC901 introduces the innovative DualView™ Power Output Meter, an evolution in design featuring two distinct, fast-responding mechanical meters positioned vertically within a single frame. Each meter is dedicated to one of the amplifier's sections: one for the 300 Watt vacuum tube amp and another for the 600 Watt solid state amp. Operating independently, these meters provide real-time, precise power readings for each section, embodying the MC901's cutting-edge dual design and reinforcing its status as a pinnacle of audio engineering.
