Back to school season is here and it is a time where students have a renewed focus on learning. At Definitive, we recognize the value of continuing education and believe it should not be a ‘season’, but a continuous effort that lasts throughout your lifetime. That’s why we provide our employees with the opportunity to enhance skills and knowledge by traveling to tradeshows and manufacturers all over the world.
“Many of our employees have been with us for years. I believe our dedication towards continued learning provides them the opportunity to grow within the organization and within their own individual career. It also fuels their passion for the technology and the industry.” — Mark Ormiston, CEO, Definitive.
The Value of Industry Tradeshows
This year, our employees have traveled to tradeshows such as: CES, InfoComm, Munich High-End Audio Show, and more. These shows provide attendees an opportunity to have a hands-on experience with the latest products and emerging technologies. In addition, it’s a great opportunity for employees to network with other dealers and manufacturers across the country and understand the big-picture trends in other markets.
“A surprising number of commercial & residential clients follow the major trade shows,” says Tony Welch, Custom Sales at Definitive, “The opportunity to travel to these shows empowers me to have conversations around the latest technology and best design practices with my clients. I am trained to recognize the best combination of value and performance available and bring that knowledge back to every job I work on.”
Factory Visits & Training
In addition to tradeshows, employees have the opportunity throughout their tenure at Definitive to visit many of our best manufacturers. This year, our employees have visited Crestron, dCS, Transparent Cable, and Wilson Audio. These multi-day visits are an opportunity for our employees to experience the people and places that build phenomenal products for our customers. During a typical visit, activities include: a tour of the factory, product demonstrations, sneak peeks at upcoming products, hands-on training, and time to socialize with other dealers.
This summer, employees went to Saco, Maine to visit Transparent for their Immersion 2017 training. Mark Peery from our Bellevue showroom says, “My visit to the Transparent Cable factory was an eye and ear opening experience. Seeing the care and attention to detail Transparent invests into the cables, was very gratifying. Plus, it’s so cool that they are made by American Craftsman.”
When employees arrive home after a training, the depth of knowledge they bring back to our team and to our customers is truly invaluable. Tom King reflects back at the 300+ tradeshows, trainings and factory visits over his 30-year career at Definitive.
“Knowledge combined with different perspectives is always a good thing. The more I learn, the more I can give accurate, helpful information — ultimately enabling the buyer to make an educated decision on what’s best for them.” Tom King, Seattle Showroom
