This month, we’re featuring “Weirdo Shrine” by La Luz!
“I have always liked off-kilter girl bands like Throwing Muses, Luscious Jackson, Bikini Kill, Le Tigre, etc. I first heard La Luz on KEXP’s Audioasis show that spotlights local bands and immediately got into their dreamy noir surf-rock vibe and harmonies. This new album is produced by crazy Southern California rocker Ty Segall and was recorded in an old surf board factory. Ooohhh aaahhhh!” -John Peters, Seattle Showroom
La Luz had a brush with death in a high-speed collision in 2013, and despite lasting trauma, returned to touring almost immediately. The goal when creating “Weirdo Shrine” was to capture the bands restive live energy.
